This app is designed to help users with their English pronunciation by providing phonetic transcriptions of texts using the International Phonetic Alphabet. It offers several features to enhance the user experience:

• Ability to see the phonetic transcription of the entire text, including the dictionary forms of individual words.
• Choice between British and American* pronunciation, with the option for the British dialect to follow phonetic conventions by voicing the [r] sound at the end of a word only if followed by a vowel.
• Usage of International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) symbols.
• Preservation of the text's structure, including line breaks and punctuation marks, in the phonetic transcription output, making it easier to read.
• Option to display the original text and its phonetic transcription side by side, facilitating back-referencing.
• Ability to vary pronunciation based on whether words are in stressed or weak positions in sentences, as in connected speech.
• Inclusion of a substantial database containing not only commonly used vocabulary, but also place names (such as countries and their capitals), nationalities, and popular names.
• When a word has multiple possible pronunciations, users can tap to select the one that fits the context (highlighted in blue in the output).
• Ability to print out the output results, share them via email, or copy them to the clipboard.
• Built-in speech synthesizer that can read the text aloud, with playback control and highlighting of IPA transcription for the current word.
• Custom URL scheme for integration with third-party apps.

On the IPA transcription screen, users can perform various gestures:

1. Single tap:
   • Tap a word to set the cursor and hear its pronunciation (mute/un-mute options available).
   • Tap in a blank space to stop speech and hide the cursor.
2. Double-tap:
   • Double-tap a word to open it in the built-in dictionary, where multiple pronunciations are listed.
   • Double-tap in a blank space to reset the font size according to the user's iOS preferences.
3. Pinch in or out to adjust the text size.
4. Swipe horizontally to select a portion of the text. The Speak button will consider the current selection.

*American transcriptions are based on the open Carnegie Mellon University Pronouncing Dictionary.
